Bloemfontein

Bloemfontein is South Africa's judicial capital and as such attracts a lot of business tourism and is often used as an overnight stop en-route to Cape Town.

This city is renowned for it’s friendliness and hospitality. There are many historical buildings and a few museums.

Bloemfontein literally means 'fountain of flowers' in Dutch and is sometimes referred to as the ‘city of roses’ due to the amazing annual rose festival held in the city and the abundance of flowers found here.

Bloemfontein is in the Free State Province and is bordered by six of South Africa’s nine provinces and the country of Lesotho. Bloemfontein is the largest city in the Free State Province.

The Anglo Boer War Museum is found in Monument Road. The Golden Gate National Park is found in this province where it meets with Kwa-Zulu Natal and Lesotho.

Bloemfontein experiences mostly warm winter days but the evenings can be very chilly and we recommend bringing warm clothes for the evenings (can drop just below 0 degrees celcius!).
