Lubango, located at an altitude of approximately 1700 - 1800m, is set in a lush tropical valley guarded by the statue of Christ built high above on the cliffs overlooking the city. There are fantastic views of the city from here. It is one of the most beautiful cities in Angola.
Rich in colonial architecture mixed with the confusion of Africa, Lubango also has many bars and restaurants offering an interesting variety of food mixed with a rich Portuguese heritage.
Tunda Valla is just outside of Lubango and although it is a rough drive, the view is very much worth it. This breathtaking gorge is cut into the cliffs overlooking Bibala. (With a straight drop of 800m) This beautiful site also has historical significance. During the civil war, the soldiers used to throw people to their deaths from these cliffs. There is one spot where bones can still be seen littering the cliff side!
